Author Angst - Part Deux

AA (Angsty Author): *pounces on husband as soon as he steps in the door*
C: What?
AA: There's a new movie out. Humans come to an alien plant to mine. Fight the natives. Mix human and native DNA.
C: And?
AA: What does that remind you off?
C: Nothing.
AA: *rolls eyes* It's in a jungle setting.
C: Elpida?
AA: Yes! Woe!
C: But they couldn't have stolen the idea from you - they'd have to have been lightning fast for that.
AA: That didn't enter my mind at all. No, it definitely a coincidence, it just sucks.

30 mins later...

AA: Watch the trailer.
C: I don't want to. I don't like fantasy.
AA: Just watch it. 1)
C: *sighs, but watches*
AA: So?
C: So you have those big flying thingies in your book?
AA: No. 2)
C: I don't think it's that similar at all. You know nothing is ever really original any more. 3)
AA: *slightly less angsty* 4)

-----------------------
1) Yes, I can be a horrible bossy wife sometimes.
2) Obviously there are "flying thingies" in The Dar Caldrin Hunt, but they don't count since it's not the same story.
3) Has he been secretly reading writers' forums?
4) It's still too close for my liking, though.

I agree with ak -- you have no worries here. Cameron isn't know for his strong story development, so you'll be okay.

Hee. I'm with husband on point number 3). There may be similarities, but so what? You know that you came up with this stuff all by yourself.

Anyway, everyone knows that Shakespeare stole story ideas and it's never done him any harm :)
